About Us

NQWLS is a community legal centre, with offices in Townsville and Cairns. It seeks to improve women’s access to justice and to promote change within the justice system by providing free legal services for women. Services include legal advice, casework assistance, information and referrals for women living in all rural, regional and remote communities from Sarina in the south, to the Torres Strait in the north and west, out to the Northern Territory border.

Information and referrals are provided for all areas of law. Legal advice is available in the areas of family/domestic violence, family law (parenting and property), defacto matters (parenting and property), discrimination, sexual assault, child protection and Victim Assist.

NQWLS provides face to face legal advice by appointment in Townsville, Ayr, Ingham, Charters Towers, Cairns, Innisfail, Atherton, Mareeba, Port Douglas and Mossman. Appointments for legal advice via Skype are also available in Mackay, Whitsundays, Kuranda, Cooktown and Mount Isa.  Telephone advice is available to women living in every community across NQ and FNQ.
