About Us

NQWLS is a community legal centre, with offices in Townsville and Cairns. The NQWLS seeks to improve women’s access to justice and to promote change within the justice system. Solicitors are available in both the Cairns and Townsville offices. The NQWLS is a free legal service for women by women. NQWLS can provide legal advice, casework assistance, and information and referrals for women who reside from Sarina in the south, to the Torres Strait in the north and west out to the Northern Territory border.

NQWLS can provide information and referrals in all areas of law. Legal advice is available in the areas of family/domestic violence, family law (parenting and property), defacto matters (parenting and property), discrimination, sexual assault, child protection, and Victim Assist.

NQWLS provides free face to face legal advice by appointment in Townsville, Ayr, Ingham, Charters Towers, Cairns, Innisfail, Atherton, Mareeba, Port Douglas and Mossman. NQWLS also provide free Skype  legal advice by appointment in Mackay, Kuranda, Cooktown and Mount Isa.

NQWLS wishes to thank and acknowledges funding received from the  Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General and the Federal Attorney-General’s Department. Without this  support, NQWLS would not be able to provide free legal and referral assistance to North Queensland and Far North Queensland  women.
