Sharell O’Brien, Solicitor from NQWLS, Townsville named as a finalist in The Australian Women’s Weekly Women of the Future Awards.

On the 22nd September, 2015, Sharell O’Brien from NQWLS, Townsville was named as one of nine finalists in the Women’s Weekly Women of the Future Awards. Now in its third year, The Australian Women’s Weekly Qantas Women of the Future competition is helping Australia’s young women of the future fulfil their dreams. The Australian Women’s Weekly has partnered with Qantas in their search for Australia’s 2015 Women of the Future. This is an initiative celebrating talent and entrepreneurship. It’s about finding the young women who, through their smart and inspirational ideas, will be part of building our nation’s future. It’s about celebrating the unique spirit of Australia.

A solicitor specialising in family law and domestic violence in Townsville, Sharell has developed a website to provide free legal education and advice for community support workers. If you are suffering domestic violence, where do you turn? Sharell wants to make this heartbreaking process simpler. She’s also campaigning to raise awareness about domestic violence and change attitudes towards it. “Domestic and family violence is not acceptable and it has to stop “, says Sharell.

Sharell received a $5000 scholarship and a $5,000 travel bursary from Qantas. Sharell donated the $5,000 scholarship to the North Queensland Women’s Legal Service to assist with the costs of travel and developing community legal education programs about domestic and family violence.
